The Cabinet of Named Laws

Thirty-Nine Rules With Someone's Name On

Wing Ⅳ · Business & Systems — 23 July 2026

A dark specimen cabinet holding thirty-nine named laws, biases and eponymous principles — from a razor sharpened seven centuries before the internet to a law of ambiguity coined in a forum post. Each one is pinned with what it says, where it came from, and a drawn diagram of how it behaves.

It exists because these laws usually travel as interchangeable wise-old-sayings, when they are actually different species: some are proven mathematics, some are sturdy rules of thumb, and some are jokes that escaped the lab. The cabinet keeps the difference between a joke and a theorem visible instead of flattening it.

What to take from it: label the strength of a claim as carefully as the claim itself. Knowing that Goodhart is a real finding and Murphy is a lament changes how much weight each can carry in an argument.
