ARTEFACT

The reading room

Don't understand something? Read one exhibit and you will.

What this is

ARTEFACT is simple: pick a subject — a person, an event, an idea, a skill, whatever you're curious about — and open the exhibit made for it. You'll properly understand it in under three minutes. No lectures, no textbooks. Just the real thing, explained plainly.

The collection is kept like a stamp album. Each of the 46 exhibits is a stamp — a real screenshot of the working piece — filed in one of five wings. Tap a stamp to read about it, then open the thing itself. The 6 History Films have their own screening room, and the Studio behind the locked door holds the working side: pitches, brand rounds and client pages that aren't for general issue.

The Hall is the same collection as a room you walk through in 3D; the Catalogue is the same collection as one list you can search.

How the pieces are made

  1. 01

    Study

Before anything is drawn, a real reference is pulled apart — a site, a film, a printed page. Nothing here is designed in the abstract.

  2. 02

    Design

The look is decided in words first: a scene, a palette, three voice words. If the words are vague, the design will be too.

  3. 03

    Build

One page, built properly, before anything is repeated. Working code, not a prototype with the hard parts left out.

  4. 04

    Check

Every piece is tested on a real phone screen before anyone sees it — small screens first, keyboard only, motion turned off.
