The Depth Atlas

A Field Guide to Web Design Vocabulary

Wing Ⅴ · Web & Design — 18 July 2026

A field guide to the language of interface and 3D web design. Eleven areas, from page anatomy through to depth, motion and materials. Every term is demonstrated rather than described: the parallax entry actually parallaxes, the glassmorphism entry is made of glass.

It exists to close a gap. Describing a design problem in vague words costs time on every build. Naming the exact thing you want changed makes the next revision the last one.

What to take from it: teach by demonstrating. A definition you can see happen is worth ten paragraphs, and a reference that behaves like the thing it describes is impossible to misread.
