Directing Masters
The Projection Room
A study of ten film masters — seven directors and three cinematographers — grouped into five families. Each carries the mechanics of how they work, a hand-drawn diagram of their signature move, and a copy-paste directive you can hand to an AI video tool.
It exists to make style teachable. Kubrick's one-point perspective or Storaro's warm-and-cool split are usually admired vaguely; here each is pinned down to something you can actually apply.
What to take from it: turn admiration into instructions. A reference is far more useful when it ends in a thing you can do, not just a thing you can appreciate.
